Rowland’s Restaurant Wins Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence

For the second year running, Rowland’s Restaurant has won Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence. Wine Spectator filters every applicant through a stringent elimination process; and to be considered for an award a restaurant’s wine list must be varied, with correct information, and appeal to a wide range of patrons.

An Award of Excellence recipient must offer at least 90 selections on their wine list, feature a variety of quality producers, and compliment the restaurant’s menu in both taste and price. Rowland’s Sommelier Gary Brown works tirelessly to ensure that our wine list meets that strict standard. Our list boasts classic, coveted selections such as Dom Perignon, while still featuring more approachable options, like North Carolina’s Jones Von Drehle Vineyards, which are sure to please all restaurant guests. We hope to see you enjoy a glass with dinner soon, and sign up for special offers to be the first to learn about our popular wine dinners.

Sommelier Earns Rowland’s Restaurant a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

Rowland's Restaurant at Westglow Resort and Spa

Gary Brown, Sommelier and Restaurant Manager at Westglow Resort and Spa, recently earned Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence on behalf of Rowland’s Restaurant. Wine Spectator Awards go to restaurants whose wine lists are varied while remaining appropriate to the restaurant’s specific cuisine. Furthermore, the Awards are only given to restaurants whose wine lists appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.

As a certified sommelier, Brown has always strived to meet the strict standards of Wine Spectator. “When I came to Westglow, my first goal was to see Rowland’s earn the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, not for another accolade on the wall, but because the Award of Excellence is an international standard that is easily recognized,” said Brown.

Brown’s standards have established strong relationships with Relais & Chateaux sponsored wines including selections from Dom Perignon, Pommery, Numanthia, and Il Borro, to name just a few. In keeping with Relais & Chateaux’s strong commitment to a sense of place, Rowland’s also offers wines from Jones Von Drehle Vineyards in the Yadkin Valley. Brown noted, “It is very important to me to have selections on the list that can be enjoyed by all. From first time wine drinkers to the aficionado, I have handpicked all the wines on the list with a specific guest in mind.”

All staff members at Westglow and Rowland’s Restaurant are humbled by the recognition and will continue to support Brown in maintaining a wine program that is inspiring, intriguing, and, most importantly, inviting.
