Snow at Westglow

westglow-property-provided-by-westglow-resort-and-spa-10

We had a little extra boost to our holiday cheer earlier this week: the first true snow of the season! While there wasn’t much accumulation, roads were covered, trees were dusted, and fluffy snowflakes fell for hours. The holidays are already a magical time at Westglow and a little bit of snow always completes a perfect setting.

Snow is no stranger to the High Country. Oftentimes, the months of January and February are full of the white stuff. However, true December snows can be rare and locals are not immune to the beauty of Christmastime snowflakes. There are few things more comforting than lounging inside during the holidays and watching snow fall.

Holiday Decorations at Westglow

Thanksgiving is over and our buffet was a huge success! We had a great time and loved seeing so many Westglow customers celebrate the holiday at Rowland’s Restaurant.

Last weekend, after all remnants of turkey day had been tucked away, we began putting up our traditional holiday decorations. Garland adorns the main stairway and all major fireplaces. A grand Christmas tree lights up the Blue Ridge Parlor and thousands of outdoor lights twinkle in our trees and bushes. At night, dinner guests at Rowland’s Restaurant will hear the soft sounds of Christmas music playing throughout the Manor House. Truly, there’s no place like Westglow to celebrate the holidays.

Introducing Westglow’s Glow Box!

Introducing Westglow’s first ever “Glow Box”! As the newest offer from our Life Enrichment Center, we are striving to give our valued customers the chance to have a taste of Westglow delivered to their doorstep.

This premiere box is designed to make holiday travel easy, and we should know. Our overnight accommodations are nearly full this time of year as guests travel from across the globe to enjoy the holidays at Westglow. So, in the interest of making the holidays as relaxing as possible, we included a few helpful items.

Our “Dress Italian” tote bag is the perfect overnight bag for the season. Ideal for short trips or as a carry-on, the bag is made of heavy canvas and leather. Large enough for clothes and essentials, yet small enough for easy carry; this bag is on our travel “must have” list.

For those of you wanting an easy travel skin care routine, we’ve included Jane Iredale’s Magic Mitt. This micro fiber cloth relies on warm water to gently remove dirt, grime, and makeup without upsetting the skins natural acid barrier, which acts as a protectant against bacteria. Because this product only calls for water, it is the perfect travel item. No need to worry about packing extra soaps or oils!

Moving from ease to comfort, we’ve included the Ostrich Pillow in the Glow Box as well. Perfect for flights and long car rides, this pillow covers the eyes and cushions the back of the head. Getting the appropriate amount of rest during the holiday season can be difficult and the Ostrich Pillow plays a role in trying to make up for sleep lost.

Finally, we all know how difficult our cleaning routines can be during travel. No one likes figuring out how to use someone else’s shower and it can be difficult to do our nightly, comforting rituals in hotels. So, we’ve included hydraAromatherapy Shower Bursts in this Glow Box. Each burst is made with pure essential oils and designed to hang in a sachet bag. When wet and placed in a shower, the bursts infuse the air with healing and restorative aromatherapy effects. From lemon to lavender, these bursts are the perfect way to infuse our cleansing rituals with a spa atmosphere.

These items were combined in our premiere box as a set to help make holiday travel easy. However, we all know how long our holiday shopping lists can get and each of these items would be great standalone presents.

The Glow Box is priced at $155 and we are currently offering free shipping! Tax is not included. Please call 828-295-5100 to order your box. Purchase available while supplies last.

The Two Seasons of Westglow

Yes, we know there are technically four seasons to a year in the High Country. However, there are two distinct travel seasons at Westglow and the rest of the North Carolina Mountains. Commonly referred to as High and Low Season, they indicate the amount of travelers to our area at any given point in the year.

Now, we’re here to debunk a myth: High and Low Season do not imply there’s a better, or “higher,” season to travel. It’s all a matter of perspective and we’d like to explain.

High Season typically runs from May through the end of October. These months are filled with sunshine, pleasing temperatures, and an abundance of activity. Outdoor concerts, farmers markets, music festivals, and horse shows take up almost every weekend during High Season and the days in between are filled with shopping, hiking, and dining al fresco. Westglow is a hub of activity and the perfect place to balance warm weather fun with vacation relaxation.

Low Season is the period between the 1st of November and the end of April. While the weather may be notable colder this time of year, these months are the perfect time to “do as the Romans do.” Blowing Rock’s population dwindles down to its year-round residents and locals are happy to share their town secrets with travelers who enjoy smaller crowds, cooler weather, and winter wonderlands. We have never ending suggestions of winter and early spring activities; the result of spending years capitalizing on this relaxing time. Westglow in the Low Season truly embodies the isolated, escape from the outside world feeling that only a vacation in the Appalachian Mountains can offer.

In short, while there are two distinct travel seasons in this region, Westglow never loses its charm, comfort, and appeal. The landscape just changes slightly.

Sunrise at Westglow

Every morning marks a familiar pace at Westglow. No two sunrises or days are the same here, but there are similarities that have become property traditions. Westglow lives by a code of appreciating the smaller, more indulgent, things in life and that practice begins the moment the sun begins to rise.

Sunrise itself is when the “glow” of the day begins. Elliot Daingerfield purchased Westglow’s land for its remarkable lighting and every morning is a tribute to his vision of the property. Time slows down for a moment as the sun rises over John’s River Gorge. Pink, orange, and yellow light spills onto the mountain tops as the sky turns a light shade of blue. It’s one of the more inspirational times of day here and we hope you’ll stop for a moment and enjoy the splendor during your next visit.

Pumpkin Inspired Spa Services

Fall is here and you’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t love this season. The transition from heat and humidity to cool and crisp weather is a welcome change and draws many of us outdoors to bask in the season’s full autumn splendor. However, that change can wreak havoc on our skin.

Luckily, Westglow has introduced some new fall services that promise to save us from the season’s drying and irritating effects. As an added bonus, they’re all pumpkin themed! Pumpkin is an up-and-coming skincare ingredient as it is rich in enzymes that help dissolve dry skin cells. Obviously, there is no ingredient more seasonally appropriate.

Our Pumpkin Spice Pedicure is an assured way to rescue anyone who may suffer from dry or cracked feet. First, a pumpkin fizzy bomb foot bath softens and moisturizes feet, while the following hydrating sugar scrubs helps nourish healthy skin and scrub away dry skin cells. Finally, pumpkin soufflé body butter gives skin a protecting and hydrating boost.

The Pumpkin Exfoliating Peel is a softening treatment that eliminates impurities by removing dead skin cells. Combining pure whipped pumpkin, pineapple extract, honey, and green tea, this treatment is the last word in seasonal and nourishing skincare.

Finally, our Pumpkin Collagen Mask is a fall twist on a classic mask. Our collagen treatments have become a staple at Westglow and this pumpkin addition is a fun bonus for anyone looking to get their autumn fix! The mask is high in antioxidants and nutrients that are perfect for all skin types.

We hope we’ll see you enjoying everything the season has to offer at Westglow soon! Click here to learn more.

Blue Skies, Orange Pumpkins, Red Leaves, and Yellow Mums

dsc_0051-2

Fall officially began yesterday and today’s weather could not be more fitting. Bright blue skies and 75 degree weather are dominant over a landscape of yellow mums and changing leaves. Westglow is moving through its own seasonal transition and we’re excited to settle down into the glory of autumn.
Our summer flowers were fantastic this past season. The Westglow flowerbeds have been bursting with bright colors and lighter pastels for several months now, but next week we’ll move on to the rich jewel tones of mums and pansies. Dark reds, plums, and yellows will welcome guests at our entrance, follow them alongside our driveway, and welcome them at our doors.
And of course, fall would not be fall without the ever-popular pumpkin. This seasonal mascot will be scattered throughout the property and may even make its way into our spa services and upcoming fall menu. Stay tuned! No one does autumn quite like Westglow and we have quite a few surprises up our sleeves.

Floyd Wedding: A Westglow Family Event

Westglow weddings are always magical. Few things compare to saying wedding vows overlooking sweeping views of John’s River Gorge or Grandfather Mountain, but every now and then a wedding comes along that means a little bit more to our property.

Westglow’s Graphic Designer Josh Floyd married his longtime sweetheart last Sunday on our Courtyard. Anna Jaquays, now Floyd, grew up around Westglow. Her first job was working as a receptionist in Westglow’s salon. Being Bonnie and Jamie Schaefer’s niece, Anna sees the property as being an extension of her home and the staff here as part of her family.

Married six years from the day they started dating, Anna and Josh knew the beginning of September would be an ideal time for an outdoor mountain wedding. The weather on the 4th didn’t disappoint, the couple was graced with sunny, 75 degree weather for their big day. Family and friends gathered under an expansive tent to celebrate Anna and Josh’s love and everything the perfect day had to offer.

Because the couple holds Westglow so close to their hearts, the entire property was swept away in the excitement of the wedding. Some of us were able to attend the lavish reception and ceremony, while others, such as Event Coordinator Jennifer Williams and Restaurant Manager Gary Brown, poured their hearts into planning and executing the event to perfection.

Truly, every wedding at Westglow receives absolute attention to detail and commitment. However, Anna and Josh helped remind the entire property of the elegance and excitement behind Westglow events. It is rare that our staff gets the opportunity to see our amazing property from the perspective of a guest. So, in addition to everything else, the day reminded us all of Westglow’s timeless appeal.

The wedding featured a variety of local vendors including flowers by Fuschia Moss, Hallmark Cakes, and Fletcher & Fletcher Photography. The pictures above are from Fletcher and Fletcher! Click here to visit their website and view contact information.
