Bridal Events at Westglow

DSC_0044B

It’s no secret that we love weddings at Westglow. The season is always an exciting time culminating in big wedding events scattered over several months. However, our list of wedding services doesn’t end with big wedding events! We’re proud to offer a range of services to brides, grooms, and their parties.

– Brunches
“Day After” brunches are a popular trend with many wedding parties and we love accommodating! Our Sun Porch gets excellent morning and midday sun with floor to ceiling windows and bright hardwood floors. Sunshine and a happy environment are key elements to a successful brunch and the Sun Porch provides both.
Our chefs can put together unique menus for your family and wedding party to enjoy the day after your Big Day, as you and your new husband or wife are off travelling towards your honeymoon.

– Bridal Showers
The bright elegance of Westglow is perfect for celebrating a soon-to-be bride at her shower. The Sun Porch is perfect for smaller groups, while the Blue Ridge Parlor with the adjoining Portico is great for larger events.
As with any Westglow event, our chefs can personalize a menu for your shower. Many soon-to-be brides opt for a “signature” dish or drink to feature at their shower and we think it’s a lovely touch to a unique day.

– Rehearsal Dinners
Rehearsal Dinners in our Blue Ridge Parlor are wildly popular events. Few things match the elegance of a fine dining experience in our Parlor and we guarantee your dinner will be unique and unforgettable.

Engagement season is winding down and wedding planning season is in full swing! Planning a wedding is exciting, stressful, and can be a huge time commitment. Luckily, there are a plethora of options to help newly engaged couples begin their planning process and Westglow has its own set of tips we happily give out during wedding tours, consultations, and meetings.

Keep Your Preferred Date in Mind When Looking at Venues

More seasonal venues like Westglow can book quickly! It’s not uncommon for our Event Coordinator to reserve weddings well over a year in advance, as our available wedding season is shorter than venues unaffected by snow and our chilly mountain temperatures. So, it may be helpful to plan ahead and hit the ground running when booking a venue that has seasonal relevance such as the mountains, the beach, and most outdoor options.

Your Dress Should Match Your Venue (And Its Corresponding Weather)

Book your venue before dress shopping! Or, at the very least, know the exact style of venue you’re going to reserve beforehand. For instance, Westglow accommodates a wide variety of weddings from black tie events to more casual, laid back celebrations. However, there are certain dress styles that complement our property better than others. Even in the middle of July nighttime breezes can get chilly. So, a dress that may be perfect for a coastal wedding might be too light here. On the other hand, dramatic “heavier” dresses are better suited for a Westglow wedding than a hot weather elopement.

Get Creative with Your Accent Pieces

We don’t really adhere to a strict set of rules in regards to what flowers, place settings, and rentals you feature in your wedding, and wholeheartedly believe that a couple’s personality and creativity should shine through. Westglow is a large Greek-Revival mansion built in the early 1900’s, but we’ve seen brides seemlessly execute a variety of decorative styles. So, let your accents portray who you are as a couple and a bride. You’re having a casual outdoor wedding, but want crystal stemware? Go for it! Looking forward to your beach wedding, but want to include some mountain wildflowers? More power to you!

We love wedding season and hope all newly engaged couples are enjoying the first stages of their wedding planning! Click here to learn more about Westglow weddings.

Westglow weddings are always magical. Few things compare to saying wedding vows overlooking sweeping views of John’s River Gorge or Grandfather Mountain, but every now and then a wedding comes along that means a little bit more to our property.

Westglow’s Graphic Designer Josh Floyd married his longtime sweetheart last Sunday on our Courtyard. Anna Jaquays, now Floyd, grew up around Westglow. Her first job was working as a receptionist in Westglow’s salon. Being Bonnie and Jamie Schaefer’s niece, Anna sees the property as being an extension of her home and the staff here as part of her family.

Married six years from the day they started dating, Anna and Josh knew the beginning of September would be an ideal time for an outdoor mountain wedding. The weather on the 4th didn’t disappoint, the couple was graced with sunny, 75 degree weather for their big day. Family and friends gathered under an expansive tent to celebrate Anna and Josh’s love and everything the perfect day had to offer.

Because the couple holds Westglow so close to their hearts, the entire property was swept away in the excitement of the wedding. Some of us were able to attend the lavish reception and ceremony, while others, such as Event Coordinator Jennifer Williams and Restaurant Manager Gary Brown, poured their hearts into planning and executing the event to perfection.

Truly, every wedding at Westglow receives absolute attention to detail and commitment. However, Anna and Josh helped remind the entire property of the elegance and excitement behind Westglow events. It is rare that our staff gets the opportunity to see our amazing property from the perspective of a guest. So, in addition to everything else, the day reminded us all of Westglow’s timeless appeal.

The wedding featured a variety of local vendors including flowers by Fuschia Moss, Hallmark Cakes, and Fletcher & Fletcher Photography. The pictures above are from Fletcher and Fletcher! Click here to visit their website and view contact information.
