Summer Storms at Westglow

Hiking

While Blowing Rock is famously exempt from typical Southern summer heat, weather patterns are still fairly typical of the American South. These patterns mean that Blowing Rock and Westglow get their fair share of afternoon summer storms.

At Westglow, we look forward to the potential for a quick storm, as they give us a chance to experience the unmatched beauty in our environment. Because of Westglow’s unique placement on a mountain ridge, guests and staff member are able to watch storms roll in, oftentimes from the direction of Grandfather Mountain, and then move down into the valley or further along the ridge. The spectacle oftentimes makes for a stunning show with soothing rain, bright lightening, and crackling thunder.

After these storms, the skies typically clear quickly and we are gifted with slightly cooler weather and glowing vistas.

Hello Spring!

Happy spring! Winter is finally behind us and we’re looking forward to seeing new growth and colors emerge. We just released our spring newsletter and it’s full of new items for this new season.

First, spring is always a reawakening for Rowland’s Restaurant. We love our winter menu, but the new season gives us a chance to get creative and highlight special events. In the next few weeks we’ll have an Easter Brunch, a wine dinner with Blowing Rock’s Savor Wine Festival, and will participate in Savor’s Taste Event. Each event is a chance for us to highlight specific aspects of Rowland’s Restaurant and we’re extremely excited for each one. Click here to view the Easter Brunch menu!

In celebration of spring, we’ve decided to extend our Low Season Rates into midweek May reservations. Book your May visit between now and April 21st to take advantage of these rates. This special applies to Day Spa Packages, Resort Packages, and Bed & Breakfast visits Monday-Thursday in the month May. Click here for more information.

Later in the season we’ll feature a Mother’s Day Brunch and an extravagant wine week. Stay tuned for more information and welcome to a wonderful spring!

Yes, we know there are technically four seasons to a year in the High Country. However, there are two distinct travel seasons at Westglow and the rest of the North Carolina Mountains. Commonly referred to as High and Low Season, they indicate the amount of travelers to our area at any given point in the year.

Now, we’re here to debunk a myth: High and Low Season do not imply there’s a better, or “higher,” season to travel. It’s all a matter of perspective and we’d like to explain.

High Season typically runs from May through the end of October. These months are filled with sunshine, pleasing temperatures, and an abundance of activity. Outdoor concerts, farmers markets, music festivals, and horse shows take up almost every weekend during High Season and the days in between are filled with shopping, hiking, and dining al fresco. Westglow is a hub of activity and the perfect place to balance warm weather fun with vacation relaxation.

Low Season is the period between the 1st of November and the end of April. While the weather may be notable colder this time of year, these months are the perfect time to “do as the Romans do.” Blowing Rock’s population dwindles down to its year-round residents and locals are happy to share their town secrets with travelers who enjoy smaller crowds, cooler weather, and winter wonderlands. We have never ending suggestions of winter and early spring activities; the result of spending years capitalizing on this relaxing time. Westglow in the Low Season truly embodies the isolated, escape from the outside world feeling that only a vacation in the Appalachian Mountains can offer.

In short, while there are two distinct travel seasons in this region, Westglow never loses its charm, comfort, and appeal. The landscape just changes slightly.

Every morning marks a familiar pace at Westglow. No two sunrises or days are the same here, but there are similarities that have become property traditions. Westglow lives by a code of appreciating the smaller, more indulgent, things in life and that practice begins the moment the sun begins to rise.

Sunrise itself is when the “glow” of the day begins. Elliot Daingerfield purchased Westglow’s land for its remarkable lighting and every morning is a tribute to his vision of the property. Time slows down for a moment as the sun rises over John’s River Gorge. Pink, orange, and yellow light spills onto the mountain tops as the sky turns a light shade of blue. It’s one of the more inspirational times of day here and we hope you’ll stop for a moment and enjoy the splendor during your next visit.

Pumpkin Inspired Spa Services

Fall is here and you’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t love this season. The transition from heat and humidity to cool and crisp weather is a welcome change and draws many of us outdoors to bask in the season’s full autumn splendor. However, that change can wreak havoc on our skin.

Luckily, Westglow has introduced some new fall services that promise to save us from the season’s drying and irritating effects. As an added bonus, they’re all pumpkin themed! Pumpkin is an up-and-coming skincare ingredient as it is rich in enzymes that help dissolve dry skin cells. Obviously, there is no ingredient more seasonally appropriate.

Our Pumpkin Spice Pedicure is an assured way to rescue anyone who may suffer from dry or cracked feet. First, a pumpkin fizzy bomb foot bath softens and moisturizes feet, while the following hydrating sugar scrubs helps nourish healthy skin and scrub away dry skin cells. Finally, pumpkin soufflé body butter gives skin a protecting and hydrating boost.

The Pumpkin Exfoliating Peel is a softening treatment that eliminates impurities by removing dead skin cells. Combining pure whipped pumpkin, pineapple extract, honey, and green tea, this treatment is the last word in seasonal and nourishing skincare.

Finally, our Pumpkin Collagen Mask is a fall twist on a classic mask. Our collagen treatments have become a staple at Westglow and this pumpkin addition is a fun bonus for anyone looking to get their autumn fix! The mask is high in antioxidants and nutrients that are perfect for all skin types.

We hope we’ll see you enjoying everything the season has to offer at Westglow soon! Click here to learn more.
