Lily Tomlin will present a one-person show on Barter’s Main Stage. Join this award winning actress and comedienne for a hilarious journey meeting characters we have come to know and love over the years. All proceeds support Barter Theatre’s Annual Fund for Artistic Excellence.

"Triple Play" is the name given to three outstanding and versatile musicians, Peter "Madcat" Ruth, Joel Brown and Chris Brubeck. Collectively they bring a rare level of joy, virtuosity, and American spirit to the folk, blues, jazz, funk and classical music they perform.

Winners of the first Hayes Bluegrass competition here at the Mariam & Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center the Surefire Bluegrass will perform their own concert at the Hayes Center.

Two of North Carolina High Country finest musicians, Steve and Ruth Smith play a unique blend of Celtic inspired Appalachian music. Enjoy an evening with this dynamic duo celebrating the release of their new CD “An Appalachian Winter”.

The historic community of Valle Crucis invites you to warm up by their firesides on Sunday, December 7th, 2008 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. This tour meanders along country lanes to gift shops, galleries, bed and breakfast inns, restaurants, cabins, and churches where hosts will provide you with refreshments and hospitality throughout the afternoon.

A descendant of some of the first Appalachian pioneers, local musician and renowned master potter Glenn Bolick spins old-time bluegrass on guitar and banjo. Bolick preserves the art of his people through music, stories and homespun jokes.

An Appalachian Christmas: Steve Lewis & Scott Freeman & others. Come celebrate the holidays and the music of the Appalachian Mountains with a variety of artists.

Wash away the doldrums of mid-Winter with a plunge into the icy waters of Chetola Lake. The Polar Plunge is one of the many events that the Village of Blowing Rock will celebrate the fun side of winter. Other events include the Chili Cook-off, the Winterfest Blues Festival, an ice carving contest and hayrides.

Lily Tomlin, one of America's foremost comediennes, continues to venture across an everwidening range of media, starring in television, theater, motion pictures, animation and video.  Throughout her extraordinary entertainment career, Tomlin has received numerous awards, including six Emmys; a Tony for her one woman Broadway show Appearing  Nitely; a second Tony as Best Actress, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics' Circle Award for her one woman performance in Jane Wagner's The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe; a CableAce Award for Executive Producing the film adaptation of The Search; a Grammy for her comedy album, This is a Recording as well as nominations for her subsequent albums Modern Scream, And That's the truth and On Stage and two Peabody Awards - the first for the ABC television special, Edith Ann's Christmas:Just Say Noel and the second for narrating and executive producing the HBO film, The Celluloid Closet. 

Jason Jarrell, Executive Chef at Rowland's Restaurant at Westglow is one of 20 High Country chefs competing at the fifth annual "Fire on the Rock Chef Challenge.

Rowland's will go head to head against Twenty-one and Main on March 16th. Diners judge a six-course blind menu for only $39.00 plus tax, tip and beverage.  The chefs must incorporate a mystery ingredient and YOU, the dining public, decide who goes on and who goes home.

Mark your calendars and plan to attend and cheer Jason to victory!

The last four chefs standing will compete live on stage at the Hayes Performing Arts Center April 17th and 18th!
