Fall is the Season for Change

As the fall leaves begin to change colors, it is the perfect time to make changes in your daily life. Learn to manage your stress and begin to create a more positive and healthy approach to life. 

Stress is a part of everyone's experience and will affect each of us in different ways. Too much stress can seriously affect your physical and mental health and the key to stress reduction is identifying techniques that will work for you. Everyone is unique and strategies will differ for each individual. Some of these stress management tips will be more appealing and effective for you than others. 

1.  Get Physical. Make exercise part of your daily routine. Find activities that you enjoy but make them challenging. Start walking, running, biking, swimming.  Take a yoga or Pilates class. Enjoy Westglow fitness class and make the mind/body connection.  Research proves that exercise enhances feelings of well-being and relaxation.

2.  Make an appointment with our Westglow nutritionist. Create a healthy food plan as there is a distinct connection between diet and mood.

 3. Talk to a friend about your feelings. Surround yourself with supportive friends. Releasing your emotions and reaching out to others is essential for positive psychological well-being. If needed, speak with a counseling professional.

4. Practice daily meditation. Take a meditation class or find an instructional book or video. Even meditating for fifteen minutes a day can be extremely helpful in learning to obtain a sense of inner peace and tranquility. Check our fitness schedule for our meditation classes. 

5.  Take one minute vacations. When feeling overwhelmed or stressed, close your eyes and imagine yourself in a very relaxed environment. Notice all the details of the scene and allow your body and mind to take little breaks.

6. Practice deep breathing. When you are tense, your breathing becomes shallow and you may even hold your breath. This will actually increase your tension. Practice breathing slowly in through the nose and out through the mouth. Inhale for the count of six and exhale for the count of six. Practice for a minute a few times a day. This will help you learn to slow down.

7. Evaluate your environment. Make sure your office, your bedroom, your living space, feels calming and peaceful. Use calming colors, smells, candles and music in your environment.

8. Laugh often. Laughter has been proven to reduce stress. Watch comedies, make jokes, have fun.

9  Set limits and boundaries with others. Learn to say no.

10. Use positive affirmations. Make a list of positive statements about yourself and about life. Put them on notecards and in places you can see them. Make a gratitude list. Count your blessings.

11. Try to stay in the moment. Be mindful. Take life one day at a time.

12.  Nurture yourself.........Schedule a massage, buy yourself flowers, walk in the rain, have a relaxing cup of herbal tea, spend some time in nature.

Wellness Assessment
Rate: $175  (1 1/2 hours)
There is a deep connection between the three components of wellness; mind, body and spirit and one must strive to nurture all three in order to achieve a superior level of physical and mental fitness. This session will help to evaluate your physical fitness and your ability to manage stress and create balance in your life. This assessment is for those who have been sedentary or inconsistent in their exercise and diet plans.

Wellness Assessment PLUS
Rate: $225  (2 hours)
This session includes our standard wellness assesment plus a rigorous fitness assessment. This session is for those who have been exercising fairly consisitently but need guidance and help with their fitness programs as well as their diet and general lifestyle. All three components of wellness; mind, body and spirit will be addressed.

Nutrition Assessment & Diet Consultation
Rate: $105 Inclusive Overnight Package; $130 Bed & Breakfast/A la Carte
This one-on-one holistic nutrition and health consultation will help you develop the best strategies for your personal nutrition goals to fit your individual lifestyle. The goal is for you to be able to incorporate these healthy living skills easily and naturally once you get home. You will leave feeling nourished, motivated and full of hope.

Health Food Grocery Store Tour
Rate: $135  Inclusive Overnight Package; $165 Bed & Breakfast/A la Carte
This "hands-on" field trip will change the way you view grocery shopping forever. You will learn where to find healthy alternatives to your favorite foods.  Learn what food labels really mean and what ingredients you need to watch out for.  You will also learn the most important foods to buy organic and how to store produce so it maintains its maximum nutritional content.  Lastly, this informative and practical service will provide you with some quick and healthy meal ideas.

Stress Management & Reduction
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
Restore balance to your life. Using a one-on-one assessment to identify personal priorities, this session combines cognitive and behavioral methods as well as techniques such as meditation, guided imagery, and exercise to help you focus and center your life.

Creating Balance in Your Life
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
In part one of this two-part workshop, Westglow guests have the opportunity to assess and evaluate the various dimensions of their life and the roles they play. This session will help you begin to clarify the imbalances and discontent that hinder your success. In session two, you will begin to create a structured plan to help promote balance in your life. Targeted writing assignments and goal setting will help you become more content with yourself and the dimensions of your life.

Recovery Re-Charge
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
This Westglow workshop focuses on learning the basic in evaluating your recovery plan and beginning to make the necessary changes in your journey or just refresh what you have been doing all along.

Midlife Journey
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
This workshop for women only explores mid-life issues such as aging, menopause, and hormonal changes, self-esteem, and body image. Spend an hour of your spa vacation learning how to manage relationship changes and other forks in the road and make your life journey healthy and exciting.

Grief & Loss Workshop
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
This workshop offers tools to cope with a significant loss. You may use this workshop as a handbook to assist you on a journey of sadness but incredible growth and change.

Mind, Body & Spirit Connection
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
This workshop uses guided imagery, art and movement to enable you to become more connected to your inner self.

Burnout Prevention & Healing
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
Burnout due to a stressful job situation can cause a myriad of unpleasant and unhealthy symptoms. This Westglow workshop will teach you to prevent burnout and focus on stress and time management techniques as well as self care tools you can use long after your spa getaway. If you are already experiencing unhealthy symptoms, learn to use a program of self healing.

Life Coaching Session
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
A licensed professional counselor or certified educator is available by appointment only for hourly sessions.

Finding the Artist Within
Rate: $120 per person (or substitute one allotted inclusive package service)
Find the artist deep inside you with this one-hour wellness session that incorporates guided imagery and experential techniques. Ideal for artists, writers and performers to remove blocks and enhance creativity, this workshop is also perfect for people who use their creative abilities in whatever they do in life. Essentially, this workshop is for all of us.
